Starlight Studio and Art Gallery is a cooperative environment that supports adults with disabilities in their artistic development. Through mentoring by professional artists, on-site and off-site exhibitions and other opportunities for representation and sales, the Starlight artists hone their artistic interests; become stronger advocates and better-integrated citizens. In this two-part workshop visitors will have a tour of the studio, view art works being created and on display.

The first visit will involve an interactive panel discussion with Starlight participants sharing their experiences of being artists and poets with disabilities. They will highlight examples of the ways art has helped them find a voice and has broken down barriers in their lives. Time will be built into the presentation for dialogue and discussion with the visiting students.

During the second session, students will work collaboratively with the Starlight artists to create expressive works of art that exemplify the use of creative expression as an advocacy tool. If space at the school is available, the students and Starlight artists will install the works of art. An additional session could be arranged for the group to install the artworks in the Starlight Gallery where they would remain on display for one week.
