Reduction Lino Printing

Add to Wishlist

Reduction printing allows students an opportunity to experiment with multiple-plate printing using only a single plate. Unlike many other kinds of printing it requires only rudimentary tools and so is a perfect entry into the world of print making. Printmaking is a collective art experience and allows for discussion of sharing a workspace and collaboration. The egalitarian nature and historic uses of printing will also be explored through the creation of an edition for exchange within the group.

An exploration and analysis of historical block printed images will allow students to formulate their own powerful graphic contemporary imagery. Students will begin by making a simpler single-plate print and exploring the interaction of print and substrate by printing on many different types/colors of paper.  After this initial foray into the medium, students will develop imagery suitable for a multi-plate printing. Multi-plate reduction printing allows students to experiment with color combinations and allows the possibility of the introduction of basic color theory and a discussion of historic color palettes. Success will be determined by student engagement through oral discussion and critiques of their art works.

Creative Courage Through Collage

Add to Wishlist
Through interactive dialog and investigation, students will be introduced to a step-by-step process of thought, journaling and collage. Students will be introduced to the history and methods of collage, to examples of symbols and text from around the world, and will engage in discussion about meanings and impact on history and cultures.

Students will explore their own ideas, determine a centralized theme, explore the structure and process of collage as it pertains to their ideas, explore creative problem-solving, and craft their ideas into a tangible representation through collage. Students will discover that throughout history and across multiple world cultures, the written word and symbolism have the power to build connections. Students will discover that every person is creative as they engage in new avenues of self-exploration and self-expression. Students will learn that ‘mistakes’ have high value and are excellent starting points for improvisation and creative problem solving.

Success will be determined by student engagement through written and oral critiques or their journal and collage works.
